Scientists from Volgograd State Technical University (Volgograd State Technical University), in collaboration with Chinese and Russian scientific institutions, have developed a fire-resistant material based on nature-like phosphorus-containing compounds and epoxy resin. This will improve fire safety and reduce the production cost of such materials, making them more economical and accessible. The research results were published in the journal Polymers.
The research focuses on studying the effect of phosphorus-containing natural compounds and nanostructures on the flammability and physical-mechanical properties of epoxy resins. The combination of these components significantly reduced the flammability of polymers and improved their mechanical strength. The use of natural compounds as flame retardant additives showed high efficiency, despite the lower phosphorus content compared to synthetic analogues.
According to Oleg Tuzhikov, Head of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry at Volgograd State Technical University, the research aims to address the pressing issue of using flammable polymers, which can significantly reduce the risk of fires similar to the tragic incidents in bars and shopping centers.
