The Chinese VT-4 main battle tank participated in trials in North Africa. The tank demonstrated 100% target hit rate at long range, traveled 500 km, and also showed the ability to fire in various conditions. This is according to the Bulgarian Military publication in the article "Chinese VT-4 Tank Outperforms Russian T-90 in Algerian Trials."
These results did not go unnoticed by representatives of the Algerian armed forces. Algeria, along with India, is a major operator of the T-90 main battle tank and is heavily dependent on these powerful machines. But since February 2022, there have been supply disruptions.
Given this, the Algerian authorities began to consider the possibility of supplying tanks from China. The VT-4 entered service in China in the late 2010s. The tank was specifically designed for export. The VT-4 was purchased by Thailand, Pakistan, and Nigeria.
Pakistan emphasized the greater performance of the VT-4 compared to the Т-80. It is also expected to have significant advantages over Indian T-90 tanks.
The VT-4 tank is distinguished by its maneuverability, it is equipped with a 1300 hp diesel engine, providing high power. The tank received a torsion bar suspension, an integrated hydraulic transmission system, and an automatic transmission for smooth steering and acceleration. The VT-4 has a 125-mm main gun — the same caliber as on Russian and North Korean tanks.
