Росатом заключил с Турцией контракт на 60 лет на обслуживание АЭС «Аккую»

Industrial maintenance for the entire lifespan of a nuclear power plant helps to avoid emergency and accident situations

This was revealed in an interview with the journal "Vestnik Atomproma" by Dmitry Pashevich, head of Rosatom Service and First Deputy General Director. According to him, long-term service contracts for the entire design life of nuclear power plants have been concluded with customers from countries where there were no nuclear power plants before: in Turkey, this is Akkuyu NPP, and in Egypt, El-Dabaa NPP.

[...] This [service] contract includes maintenance and repair of NPP equipment, the possibility of supplying spare parts and developing technological documentation for repairs. In this case, consultations on operational issues are not the subject of the contract. The contract is designed for the entire design life - 60 years. I would like to note that service contracts are not always concluded immediately for the entire period of operation. It depends on the country's specifics, including the specifics of legislation and procurement procedures in the customer's country. We have contracts for 3, 4, 10 and 12 years. There is also experience in their extension.
Dmitry Pashevich, First Deputy General Director of Rosatom Service

Rosatom's service contract includes everything that the power unit owner needs for its safe and efficient operation. In particular, this is:

  • supply of spare parts to customers;
  • dispatch of employees to perform work during scheduled and unscheduled repairs;
  • in-depth consulting and training of specialists for safe operation in a package for countries that do not have experience in operating nuclear power plants - and this is precisely the case with Akkuyu NPP. In this case, after the NPP is launched at the site after the unit is started, a group of Russian specialists remains for a certain period to help establish safe operation of the station;
  • face-to-face and remote consultations from industry design and engineering organizations that produce equipment.

A separate contract is required for working with nuclear fuel, with which a separate integrator works.

Russian and Turkish nuclear scientists have already completed the installation of the lower dome part of the outer containment shell at the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP in the design position. The Turkish authorities planned to put the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP into operation on October 29, 2024. However, this date may be postponed to 2025 due to problems with the supply of equipment from Germany.

JSC Rosatom Service is the service division of the Rosatom State Corporation, which is constantly present at the sites of the State Corporation's partner countries in 12 countries. A large number of enterprises of the State Corporation, private Russian manufacturers and, if necessary, foreign manufacturers are involved in the performance of work on NPP equipment outside Russia.
