The unit generates electricity without burning fuel through electrochemical conversion

At the Novosibirsk Technoprom forum, UEC, part of the Rostec State Corporation, is showcasing a model of a promising power plant. It generates electricity without burning fuel through electrochemical conversion.

The main developer of the power plant is the UEC engineering center, its design is fully based on 3D modeling. A full range of three-dimensional calculations and structural development has already been completed.

The equipment is intended for the development of domestic small-scale power generation and remote regions, it will have a high efficiency — more than 50%. This is more than all existing installations for small-scale power generation with a capacity of up to 1 MW.

Small-scale power generation is a promising area, and power plants based on fuel cells will prevail here. Currently, there are no real industrial designs of such developments in Russia. The UEC power plant will be the first in this segment. A new enterprise will be created in the UEC contour for its production. The design is now being completed, and at the end of the year we will begin testing it. At the first stage, the power plant will have a capacity of 2.5 kW, in the future we will increase this figure.

The developed power plant involves the use of natural gas as fuel. Electricity is generated without burning fuel, that is, by electrochemical conversion of syngas in fuel cells. At the same time, the fuel does not burn, and the installation harms the environment less than its analogues and competitors.

Potential customers of the new UEC product are companies in the oil and gas sector that need power supply to remote autonomous facilities. Also, large developers and companies in the energy sector are already showing interest in the power plant.
