One of the most demanded fire support assets in the airborne assault units of the Russian Airborne Forces remains the highly mobile automated self-propelled gun 2S25M "Sprut-SDM1", equipped with a 125-mm smoothbore gun 2A75-1.
The modernized 2S25M self-propelled anti-tank gun has the ability to fire standard tank 125-mm armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles "Mango-M", high-explosive fragmentation 3OF26, as well as the "Invar-M1" ATGM, turning the "Sprut-SDM1" into a powerful airborne assault weapon. It is capable of destroying heavy armored vehicles and enemy strongholds both day and night at a distance of up to 8-10 km, both from closed and open firing positions within line of sight.
The gun can be equipped with an optoelectronic barrel bending compensation device, which makes adjustments to the tank information and control system in accordance with the barrel channel deformation coefficient due to heating during firing. Thus, the accuracy of firing from the 2A75 smoothbore gun can be increased by 20-25%.
For combat in nighttime conditions, the vehicle has thermal imaging channels for the PKP and "Sosna-U" sights with an effective range of up to 5000-5500 m. The firing range of high-explosive fragmentation and cumulative projectiles from closed firing positions can reach 10 km using a ballistic computer.
The self-propelled gun can be retrofitted with an additional protection kit based on elements of the 4S23 and 4S24 ERA "Relikt", as well as multi-tiered anti-cumulative screens to protect against ударных FPV-коптеров. However, due to the increase in weight, it will lose its amphibious qualities.
