Tests of the Stretta laser training system, which allows simulating combat between two brigades without the use of real ammunition, have begun at one of the Russian military training grounds, a source in the defense industry complex (DIC) said.
There is no official confirmation of this information.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had previously planned to equip the training ground with a laser system manufactured by Rheinmetall. However, the delivery was disrupted due to Western sanctions.
According to a source in the defense industry, the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a contract for the development of a system for training two brigades using laser fire simulators and hit sensors for all types of weapons in service with the Russian Armed Forces.
Engineers were to create software that could analyze the actions of the military and their mistakes during maneuvers at the training ground. The development cost was 756 million rubles, the tender was published on the public procurement website.
The documentation indicated that the development work (R&D) was to be completed in the fall of 2021. State tests of "Stretta" were scheduled for April 2024, the source noted.
