Улучшат работу арктических судов: в Саратове разработали сверхпрочную модель гребного винта

The new product can be used in the Far North

A reinforced version of the propeller has been created at the Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov (SSTU). It is planned to be used in the designs of modern engines for sea and river vessels. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

The uniqueness of the development lies in a special coating on the propeller blades. It is resistant to corrosion, mechanical damage, and cavitation (the formation of small, almost empty cavities).

The result was achieved through the use of laser radiation energy, with the help of which a coating of finely dispersed powders of titanium oxide and tungsten carbide was formed layer by layer on the surface of the blades, which made it possible to provide an increased technical effect.

The propeller converts the mechanical energy of the engine into the energy of the vessel's movement in the process of overcoming water resistance. The development is planned to be used for Arctic vessels to eliminate rapid wear and deformation of propeller blades.

During operation, the working elements of propellers (blades) interact with flows of sea and fresh water, where they are subjected to cavitation erosion and corrosive destruction, and in the presence of various solid particles - mechanical wear and deformation. Therefore, the blade materials must have increased protective properties and strength characteristics, providing high resistance to destructive effects.

It is worth noting that at the beginning of this year, the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center manufactured a batch of stainless steel propellers for passenger vessels of the REGK.126 project.
