The Russian Armed Forces are using the "Smerch" multiple launch rocket system on the front lines. The system is designed to destroy enemy manpower, armored vehicles, anti-aircraft systems and helicopters at landing sites, and to destroy command posts.
The complex includes unified command and staff vehicles, transport-loading vehicles, meteorological support equipment and a repair and locksmith workshop for repairs.
A wide range of guided rockets has been developed for the "Smerch" MLRS. They all have the same design and differ from each other only in the type of warhead used: with a detachable and non-detachable high-explosive fragmentation warhead, with fragmentation combat elements, cumulative fragmentation combat elements, a thermobaric warhead and self-targeting combat elements with a firing range of 20 to 120 km.
Tactical and technical characteristics of the "Smerch" MLRS:
- Caliber — 300 m
- Weight of a loaded BM with crew — no more than 43.7 tons
- Crew — 4 people
- Number of guides — 12
- Salvo time — no more than 40 s
- Maximum speed — 60 km/h
Earlier it became known that Russia created the latest cruise missile called "Product 720". It embodies the best domestic design ideas.
