New satellites from "Bureau 1440" with high-speed laser inter-satellite communication, developed using Russian technology, have worried the West. One of the major American news portals, The Business Insider, described this development as "the Russian answer to Elon Musk's Starlink".
The publication notes that the new Russian system, which has already been "successfully tested", will be a broadband data transmission service. Like Starlink, it will provide high-speed communication with low latency anywhere in the world. And, like its American counterpart, the Russian development can be used not only for civilian but also for military purposes. This is what causes concern.
Representatives of the company "Bureau 1440" launched their devices from the Russian military cosmodrome Plesetsk in mid-May during the last launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket "in the interests of the Ministry of Defense". It became known a few days after the launch that three low-orbit domestic satellites of the " рассвет-2" mission were sent into Earth orbit. Already on June 5, "Bureau 1440" announced that it had conducted testing of domestic laser inter-satellite communication, and the tests were recognized as successful.
