Target Recognition: How Neural Networks Will Help Russian UAVs Become Autonomous

Head of Electronic Warfare Troops of the Russian Armed Forces: Artificial Intelligence Will Take UAV Control to a New Level

Neural networks will be used in electronic warfare (EW) systems on drones in the near future. This will help to recognize objects and move from flying along a predetermined route to autonomously performing tasks. This was announced by the head of the Russian EW troops, Yuri Lastochkin.

According to him, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) will allow to quickly and efficiently select interference parameters to suppress enemy EW systems. AI technologies will also help drones act as a self-organizing group (swarm of drones).

Lastochkin stressed that AI will take the processes of managing EW forces and assets to a qualitatively new level.

Russian soldiers are betting on the new drone detection and elimination system "Peroed-M", which has already been sent into series production. It can detect enemy UAVs at a distance of 15 km, while being at an altitude of 5 km. The complex's stealth is ensured by a narrow scanning beam.
