Новый российский бронеавтомобиль «Центурион» засветился в Сети

It resembles the legendary "Falkatus" - featuring armored glass, mine protection, and all-around visibility

Photos of a new domestic armored car called "Centurion" have appeared in Russian social networks.

The deep black armored car with a post-apocalyptic design has not been publicly featured anywhere before. The manufacturer of the super-armored vehicle is unknown, as are its tactical and technical characteristics, and the structures that maintain it.

However, judging by its appearance, this armored car has enhanced mine protection, reinforced suspension, and a powerful engine. It also apparently has excellent off-road capability and decent speed on prepared roads. Five doors with loopholes allow for all-around defense, and armored glass provides a wide view.

Social networks note that the "Centurion" may well be related to the legendary "Falkatus" armored car, which has been in service with the FSB Special Purpose Center for more than ten years. This is suggested by a number of similar design solutions: armor, loopholes, all-around visibility, and multiple doors.

The "Falkatus" armored car, also known as "The Punisher", has been seen in footage of special operations and exercises involving the FSB Special Purpose Center since 2012. However, little is known about the characteristics of the "Falkatus" from official sources: this Russian development is kept strictly secret.

Officially, during the presentation of this vehicle to President Vladimir Putin in February 2016, the FSB leadership explained that the equipment was originally developed for special purpose units of the agency. It is armored in accordance with the Russian State Standard for protection class 6A. In particular, this armor provides protection against an armor-piercing incendiary bullet from an SVD at close range.
