Engineers from the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Zhukovsky (TsAGI) conducted the final test of the SJ-100 aircraft model with new Russian PD-8 engines developed by the United Engine Corporation, as reported by the UEC press service.
The tests were conducted in the institute's subsonic and transonic wind tunnels over the course of a year. Using mini-tufts (the oldest method of experimental aerodynamics, allowing visualization of airflow at subsonic speeds), TsAGI specialists checked the aerodynamic characteristics at the junction of the wing, pylon, and nacelle. The results obtained will be used during flight tests of the aircraft with the PD-8.
Earlier, TsAGI tested PD-8 during takeoff and landing of the SJ-100. The engine is being developed as part of the import substitution program in the Russian aviation industry.
