In 2024, mass production of domestic PD-14 aircraft engines will begin. According to information voiced by Mikhail Remizov, Deputy General Director of UEC for Strategy and Program-Project Management, at the Russia exhibition-forum, this is the year of "contractual obligation to start mass deliveries for commercial operation".
The PD-14 engine is a development for the prospective medium-range Russian aircraft MC-21-310 from UAC. The family of fifth-generation turbofan engines for prospective civil, transport and special aviation received certification from Rosaviatsiya in 2018, and later they received international certification. In 2023, the production of engines began.
It is known that the PD-14 weighs 2,870 kg and has a thrust of 14 thousand kgf in take-off mode. The engine can provide a flight range of up to 5.1 thousand kilometers, but in the future it may grow to 7 thousand kilometers. The specific fuel consumption in cruise mode (kg/kgf h), according to the developers, is 10–15% better than analogues from other manufacturers, but the specific fuel consumption figure is not specified.
The year 2024 is also important for the Russian medium-range aircraft MC-21-310, where these engines will be installed. Its modernized version of the MC-21-300/310 has been approved for transportation by Rosaviatsiya after a series of tests - including emergency evacuation of passengers in a difficult situation. It is expected that the first modernized airliners will begin transportation this year.
In addition, work continues to replace foreign components and increase production capacity — the state intends to allocate financial support to expand the production of airliners.
