The water system in an airliner is an important element of onboard equipment, ensuring the comfort of aircraft. As a rule, it is quite reliable and simple, therefore, maintenance does not cause difficulties for technical personnel.
The author of the "Superjet Technician" channel said that in the domestic SSJ-100 "they went their own way", since its water system turned out to be excessively loaded.
Problem with the geared drive
The specialist explained that the SSJ-100 aircraft is equipped with two compressors that inject overpressure into the water tank in the above-water space.
The compressors operate alternately and, when the pressure in the tank drops below 2.2 atm, they turn on automatically, their operation is regulated by the compressor drive relay, which receives a signal from the air pressure alarms. The entire water system is controlled by a separate water supply system control unit.
The disadvantage of the whole system is that it is quite loaded. Plus to everything, all these compressors have weight and sometimes fail. Perhaps, the weakest point in these compressors is the geared drive. Belts weaken and get damaged over time.
The engineer suggested replacing the system with two compressed air supply tubes from the auxiliary power unit and the engine. According to him, such a scheme is used on many aircraft and found it difficult to explain why this was not done in the case of the SSJ-100.
There are still advantages
However, there are also advantages to this arrangement - when the power plant is not working in the parking lot, the water supply will work, it is only necessary to provide it with electricity.
Otherwise, the developers could reduce the cost and unload this system. And of course, reduce the weight of the aircraft, even if insignificantly, because in civil aviation, the fight against weight is important.
An important advantage of the new, import-substituted SJ-100 is safety. Aviation expert Roman Gusarov urged not to compare the aircraft with "Zhiguli" anddeclared a high level of reliability of the aircraft.
