Solemn events dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the launching of the cruiser "Aurora" were held at the Leningrad Naval Base of the Baltic Fleet in St. Petersburg.
The celebrations began with the raising of the St. Andrew's flag and signal flags, and the alignment of personnel. The ship's commander read out orders to encourage distinguished servicemen from the crew.
An excursion was organized for the cruiser's guests, introducing them to the conditions of ship service and life. Guests were shown museum exhibits and some of the ship's premises, and representatives of the ship's command spoke about the cruiser's combat capabilities and its armament.
About the Cruiser "Aurora"
The cruiser "Aurora" became widely known for its participation in the Russo-Japanese War in 1904-1905. The ship was involved in the Battle of Tsushima, where, despite heavy losses, the crew showed heroism and resilience.
At the same time, "Aurora" went down in history not only as a warship, but also as a symbol of the October Revolution of 1917. It was from the cruiser that the signal was given to begin the storming of the Winter Palace, which opened a new era in Russian history.
The cruiser was launched on May 24, 1900. 125 years have passed since the event, but the ship is still part of the Baltic Fleet and has participated in three wars during this period.
Despite its solid age, the cruiser is equipped with working equipment inside. And on board, as before, servicemen of the Baltic Fleet serve both on conscription and contract service. Everything is according to the ship's regulations — personnel training, daily details and watch.
