Tanks of the "Object 187" series: could have been much more powerful than the T-90M, but never went into production

Could have had an increased body size 1.3 times larger than the T-90M

Among the most highly protected and technically advanced domestic main battle tanks developed by UKBTM between 1988 and 1992 were the "Object 187" series vehicles in six unique modifications. This was reported by military analyst Evgeny Damantsev.

The most interesting were the prototypes with the latest welded turrets with a physical size of the frontal armor plates of the turret of about 1000 mm, placed on advanced hulls with an increased size of the frontal part of the hull, exceeding the T-90M by about 1.35 times. There is also a prototype with a similar turret on the T-80BV chassis.

The frontal armor plates of the turrets are represented by standard niches with special armor in the form of reflective sheets. With an increased size and elements of 4S23 "Relikt" dynamic protection, they could acquire an equivalent resistance to kinetic projectiles of about 1050-1150 mm, and to cumulative effects - 1450-1550 mm.

Also, the experienced prototypes of the "Object 187" series were equipped with advanced 2A66 guns with increased ballistics and a new increased charging chamber for the use of armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles "Anker" with advanced elongated uranium cores.

Unfortunately, the economic problems of the 90s did not contribute to the launch of the production line of these machines.
