The Indian Navy has increased the combat capabilities of the MiG-29K carrier-based fighters by integrating the Israeli Rampage missile with a range of up to 250 kilometers. This is reported by Indian Defense News.
The Rampage missile is designed to destroy command centers, communication nodes, and enemy air defense systems. It is equipped with GPS and an inertial navigation system with protection against interference, which makes it resistant to electronic warfare.
Integration with MiG-29K and Su-30MKI
The Israeli missile has been put into service with the entire Indian Navy fleet. It has also been integrated with the Su-30MKI and Sepecat Jaguar. Additional software and equipment, including a bomb rack (a device for suspending ammunition), have been installed on the aircraft.
The modernization of aircraft with Rampage missiles is a significant step in increasing the Indian Navy's ability to strike naval targets.
About the MiG-29K
The MiG-29K carrier-based fighter, developed by the Mikoyan Design Bureau, made its first flight in June 1988. In 2004, Russia signed a number of agreements with India worth more than $1.5 billion.
The contracts provided for the transfer of the aircraft carrier "Admiral Gorshkov", which was subsequently named "Vikramaditya" ("Almighty"). India also received 45 MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB aircraft. Today, these aircraft form the basis of the country's naval aviation.
