At the pilot production plant of the KamAZ Scientific and Technical Center, a frame for a new K5 cabin with a flat roof was manufactured. This frame expands the range of vehicles intended for the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) and other specialized tasks (crane installations, refrigerated trucks, and municipal equipment).
Previously, imported components from a European partner were used for the cabins. Two prototypes successfully passed tests in Chekhov, and the third in Yekaterinburg. However, after the change in the international situation in 2022, KamAZ switched to full import substitution.
The team led by Pavel Weinberger developed a unified frame with a flat roof, offering options both with and without a sleeping compartment. The exterior and interior of the vehicle have also been updated. Suppliers have prepared the production of original parts, many of which are already ready for mass production.
The introduction of a frame with a flat roof without a sleeping compartment is one of the victories on the path to import substitution of this product. This is a completely original development that competitors do not have.
The first frame with a flat roof without a sleeping compartment was created at the pilot production plant of the STC and sent to the Traks Vostok Rus plant for final assembly, sealing, door installation, and painting.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that K-5 trucks will receive a completely Russian cabin.
