The Tu-160M "White Swan" strategic bomber has changed by 80% compared to the basic version, but has retained its external appearance. This was announced by Yuri Abrosimov, CEO of Tupolev Company.
According to him, the modernization affected the onboard radar systems and equipment. Abrosimov called the restoration of production cooperation one of the main difficulties.
The Tu-160M aircraft has retained its former external appearance, but is being created on a completely new technological basis using digital technologies. We have actually rebuilt technological chains for a number of units, taking into account the use of modern technologies.
Abrosimov added that Tupolev also updated the workshop equipment and flight test base. The enterprise launched new electron-beam welding and vacuum annealing units for titanium components.
The "White Swan", in addition to its onboard systems, is also updating its armament composition. It recently became known that a new Kh-BD missile with a range of 6500 km was created for the Tu-160M.
