Russia Increases Tu-160M "White Swan" Fleet to Ten Modernized Strategic Aircraft

Military Watch Magazine assessed the current state of the bomber construction and upgrade program

Russia has increased its fleet of modernized Tu-160M strategic missile carriers to ten units. This was reported by Military Watch Magazine, noting that the expansion of the fleet reflects the continuation of the long-range bomber upgrade program.

The publication notes that the expansion of the Tu-160M fleet is associated not only with the production of new aircraft but also with the deep modernization of previously built airframes. The updated version retains the structural basis of the Tu-160 but receives significantly redesigned control, navigation, and communication systems.

It is separately emphasized that the modernization program is aimed at extending the aircraft's life cycle and increasing its technical efficiency. During the upgrade, key elements of the onboard equipment are replaced, including avionics and propulsion systems, which allows the platform to be brought to a modern level of operation.

The publication also draws attention to the fact that the increase to ten units reflects a steady pace of work on updating strategic aviation. This approach allows maintaining the operational life of the fleet and gradually replacing outdated modifications with more modern versions.
