The famous split winglets of the Boeing 737 MAX have become its hallmark, helping to save fuel. However, in the case of the MS-21-310, Russian engineers took a different path; after completing the main test program, the airliner will receive new opportunities to improve efficiency, aviation expert Roman Gusarov told "Pervy Tekhnichesky".

In his opinion, improving aerodynamic qualities will help in this. For example, wingtips, or so-called winglets, reduce drag, but this is only a small part of the future work. Such winglets are already present on another Russian novelty – the SJ-100.
The issue of fuel efficiency is not only composed of the same wingtips. There will also be a fight to reduce weight. And it always goes in a number of directions.
Gusarov added that the MS-21 should not be perceived as a finished project immediately after certification. The aircraft can be improved during operation – through aerodynamics, weight reduction, and equipment modernization.

The MS-21's wings are the reason for its range of 3840 kilometers. However, aviation expert and blogger SkyExpert refuted this point of view.
It is already known that the Aeroflot group will receive the first batch of MS-21-310s. The discussion was about 200 aircraft by 2030.
