The first Russian Sukhoi Superjets received significantly stricter resource limitations during certification than they have today. Aviation expert Roman Gusarov told "Pervy Tekhnichesky" about this, explaining the prospects for increasing the resource of the Russian PD-8.
According to him, initially, the Superjet was specified with a resource of about 10 thousand flight hours. For a passenger aircraft, this was a relatively short service life with intensive flights.
The first Superjets, the first batch, had a resource of 10,000 hours. When they entered service, over these three years, the resource was increased, and now the aircraft have been flying for 15 years.
Gusarov believes that a similar mechanism will work for the PD-8 as well. The current figures in the certificate reflect only the documented resource, and not necessarily the ultimate structural endurance.
Former Airbus auditor and head of flight safety service RunAvia Andrey Patrakov explained that the economic sense of re-engining the SaM146 with the PD-8 remains highly questionable.
