For the LMS-901 "Baikal", which is being prepared for certification, the main test is not maximum speed or range. The aircraft must operate where conventional aviation equipment faces difficult operating conditions, aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervy Tekhnichesky".

According to him, the aircraft must be designed for operation on unpaved airfields, in cold climates, and with minimal infrastructure.
And on the one hand, it must be able to land on a clearing, on mud. To be repaired outdoors, in freezing temperatures.
At the same time, the new aircraft must be significantly more comfortable than the An-2, Gusarov emphasized, have a warm cabin and a lower noise level. But all these features should not turn the aircraft into an expensive and complex machine, unsuitable for remote areas.
It is not required to have a glass cockpit, displays. No one really needs that at all.
The Far North will be an important direction for the LMS-901, where Soviet An-2s are still flying. However, aircraft designer Yuri Petrov claimed that the "Baikal" will not be suitable for the regions.
Currently, the "Baikal" is at the stage of preparing a prototype for endurance static tests at TsAGI, noted Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov.
