The Russian-Belarusian project of the light multi-purpose aircraft "Osvey" has reached a stage of additional approvals that could affect its further production. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka proposed discussing the issues that have arisen at a meeting with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

Lukashenka stated that there are disagreements surrounding the project that need to be resolved for work on the aircraft to continue. He emphasized that "Osvey" is needed by both countries: for Russia, the aircraft should cover part of the demand for light aircraft, and for Belarus, the project will provide new competencies in aircraft manufacturing.

The statement came shortly after Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov announced additional costs associated with new requirements for the aircraft. According to him, the Russian and Belarusian sides are coordinating how these costs will be distributed.

The production and assembly of "Osvey" are planned to be organized at the Sokol plant of the United Aircraft Corporation in Nizhny Novgorod. Rosaviatsiya expects the aircraft to be certified by the end of 2029, and the demand from Russian airlines is estimated at 59 aircraft.

For Belarus, the project has special significance. Lukashenka links it not only to the production of aircraft for the common market of Russia and Belarus but also to the development of its own aviation industry.
