Russian drivers may be relieved of the need to pay for car evacuation and its storage at an impound lot. Such a bill has been submitted to the State Duma. The document has been sent to the Russian government for review.

Currently, after a car is evacuated, the driver must pay not only the parking violation fine itself, but also for moving the car to a specialized parking lot and the time it is stored there. The amount of expenses depends on regional tariffs and the duration of the car's stay at the impound lot.

The authors of the initiative propose to exempt citizens from paying for the relocation of a detained vehicle and its storage. These expenses are proposed to be compensated from the budget of the region where the vehicle was detained.

At the same time, deputies note that the fee for car evacuation and storage is not an administrative penalty. Therefore, the abolition of these expenses does not cancel responsibility for the violation: the driver will still have to pay the fine, and the car, if there are legal grounds, can be detained and sent to a specialized parking lot.

It is expected that such a measure will help improve the situation of drivers and reduce additional costs that arise during car evacuation. At the same time, the current mechanism for bringing to administrative responsibility will remain unchanged.
