Starting from September 1, 2027, all 10th-11th grade students will learn to apply artificial intelligence technologies — both in lessons and in life. This was announced by Maxim Kostenko, an expert from the Ministry of Education and Head of the V. S. Lednev Institute of Content and Teaching Methods. The requirement is embedded in the new educational standard for high school.

The Ministry of Education has already approved the federal state educational standard (FGOS) for grades 10-11. Training under it will begin on September 1, 2027. The changes affected meta-subject results — skills that are not tied to one subject.

This means that the school must create conditions under which a graduate will understand the basic principles of AI and be able to use such tools in educational and life situations

Kostenko clarified in an interview with TASS what kind of AI is suitable for schools. According to him, neural networks should not simply provide ready-made answers, otherwise they will turn into an analogue of electronic solution books. Instead, educational systems are needed that help students independently arrive at the correct solution through reasoning, problem-solving, and skill training.

The expert called this approach Socratic dialogue. In this case, AI does not offer a ready-made solution, but helps the student or teacher find it in the process of collaborative work. Similar simulators for mathematics and other subjects are already being developed by large Russian IT companies. They help schoolchildren understand the material, and teachers — explain complex topics in different ways

AI will also appear in schools as a separate subject. The Head of the Ministry of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, previously reported that the course "Artificial Intelligence and Information Security" will become mandatory for students in grades 5-11 starting from the next academic year.
