Specialists from the Artificial Intelligence Center of Novosibirsk State University (AI Center NSU) have developed adaptive AI-based algorithms that correct air quality meter readings taking into account external conditions. Updated monitoring stations can be placed throughout the city, the university's press service reported.

The monitoring system records:

  • air temperature
  • air composition
  • wind speed
  • wind direction

However, over time, the sensitivity of sensors deteriorates due to physical and chemical processes, and even calibration cannot solve this problem. The new algorithm, developed for the company "CityAir", can compensate for the decrease in sensor accuracy in monitoring equipment.

The experience gained creates a basis for wider application of the center's technologies in urban monitoring networks.
NSU Press Service

The first air quality monitoring post with AI was installed in the Oktyabrsky district of Novosibirsk. Similar devices are planned to be placed on small sites, including on urban infrastructure supports. This approach allows covering a large area without building a separate pavilion for observation points.

The press service emphasized that for the university, the transition from scientific research to solving applied problems is important. These developments can be adapted for monitoring networks of other purposes, taking into account the characteristics of new equipment, the university concluded.
