A passenger Boeing 737-800 of S7 Airlines, flight S7 7099 from Novosibirsk to Makhachkala, made an emergency landing at Omsk airport after transmitting the internationally recognized emergency code 7700. Loss of control or critical structural damage was prevented: the crew promptly detected a malfunction during the flight over Kazakhstan and diverted the aircraft to the nearest alternative airfield.

Emergency code 7700 is transmitted by the aircraft's transponder in case of any critical malfunctions — from systemic electronic failure and cabin depressurization to engine failure or a threat on board. This code automatically grants the aircraft the highest priority in air traffic control services, clearing the air corridor and giving the right to an unscheduled landing at any nearby hub port.

The incident occurred near the Kazakh city of Kokshetau. Having gained priority over other flights, the twin-engine narrow-body airliner with a capacity of up to 189 passengers sharply changed its trajectory, turned towards the Russian border, and headed for Omsk.

No ground incidents were reported; the aircraft landed at a routinely prepared airport. To transport passengers to their destination, the airline dispatched a reserve aircraft from Tolmachevo.
