Exploration of minerals using drones has become actively applied in the Arctic and the Far East. Drones simplify logistics and reduce the time required for work. This was stated by Alexey Ageev, chief geophysicist of "Tikhiye Krylya" company.

The involvement of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in geological exploration reduces the cost of work, he emphasized. In addition, their execution from copters or aircraft-type UAVs is many times faster than ground methods of mineral exploration. This is especially important in Arctic conditions, Ageev added.

For the past 3 years, "Tikhiye Krylya" company has been conducting aeromagnetic and aerogamma-spectrometric surveys in the Arctic and the Far East to search for solid minerals, including gold and polymetallic ores. Specialists use helicopter-type and aircraft-type drones with gasoline and electric engines.

The main customers are subsoil users, including gold mining and mining companies, the geophysicist summarized. The use of UAVs for geological exploration yielded results: geologists found 7 new deposits of scarce minerals.
