ODK has revealed technical solutions for the PD-8 and PD-35 engines. The developments are based on new domestic materials and additive technologies. They allow for reduced fuel consumption, lighter construction, and increased reliability, the Rostec press service told "Pervy Tekhnichesky".

As noted by ODK, it is impossible to increase aircraft engine efficiency solely through design solutions. Each transition to a new generation of power plants is accompanied by the introduction of new alloys – heat-resistant nickel, titanium, and powder nickel alloys. These materials form the basis for creating domestic engines that replace imported counterparts. The development and mastery of proprietary alloys and coatings is a strategic task that allows Russia to ensure technological independence in aircraft engine manufacturing. Such materials provide increased thrust, service life, and reliability, replacing foreign solutions previously used in Russian aircraft.

New high-temperature materials improve the thermodynamic cycle parameters of the engine, reducing fuel consumption. Polymer composites for fan blades reduce engine weight. Innovative coatings and alloys increase the resistance of parts to extreme temperatures and loads.

Additive technologies shorten development times and allow for the production of parts with complex geometries that cannot be manufactured by casting, forging, or machining. At ODK-Aviadvigatel, more than 2300 parts for the PD-35 demonstrator engine were designed and manufactured using additive methods. At ODK-Saturn, 3D printing is used for PD-8 parts.

PD-8 is designed for import-substituted Superjets and Be-200 amphibious aircraft. For the engine's development, 25 critical technologies were implemented, 17 of which are new. In June 2026, the engine received a type certificate, and on June 25, ODK announced the start of serial production.

PD-35 is being developed for wide-body aircraft. The demonstrator engine is already undergoing tests. As part of the program, 20 critical technologies are being developed, and new materials and coatings are being mastered.
