The Su-34M has gained the ability to use hypersonic X-47M2 "Kinzhal" missiles. If confirmed, the front-line bomber will become the second carrier of the weapon after the MiG-31K, said military observer Andrey Kots.
According to him, the modernized Su-34M received an expanded set of high-precision weapons. The aircraft's flight range increased due to more economical AL-31FM2 engines.
The arsenal of high-precision munitions has expanded, including due to X-47M2 "Kinzhal" missiles. Previously, only MiG-31K aircraft in the Aerospace Forces carried this weapon.
The MiG-31K was created specifically for the "Kinzhal" and exists in limited numbers, while the Su-34 is the most numerous strike aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
The hypersonic "Kinzhal" itself develops speeds exceeding Mach 10 and is capable of hitting targets at a distance of more than 2,000 km.
