The Russian hypersonic missile Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" uses new tactics for successful target engagement and preemptive evasion of interception by anti-aircraft systems. Military expert Yuri Knutov spoke about the details of the system's operation.
According to him, speed remains one of the key factors. For example, the American Patriot anti-aircraft system is unable to accurately calculate the meeting point of the anti-missile with the warhead.
"The Kinzhal, to accurately hit the target, slows down. And at this time, when it has slowed down and is precisely aiming at the target, there is a probability of its interception, but it is also very small. We use a change in flight trajectory."
Retired American Lieutenant General Ben Hodges also pointed to the work of the "Kinzhal" and Kh-101 missiles in a duet.
According to him, the control systems of the air defense missile systems are simply overloaded with targets coming at different altitudes and speeds.
