United Engine Corporation continues to improve PD-8 and PD-14 aircraft engines, paying special attention to reducing the life cycle cost and operating costs per hour. This was announced by UEC General Designer Yuri Shmotin at the XXVI International Forum HREXPO PRO LYUDEY 2026.
According to him, the creation of modern gas turbine engines is impossible without broad production cooperation, uniting enterprises from almost all regions of Russia. He noted that power plants operate in extreme conditions – at a rotation speed of up to 20 thousand revolutions per minute and a temperature of up to 2000 degrees, so engineers simultaneously increase the reliability of the design and consistently reduce production costs, life cycle costs, and operating expenses.
The PD-8 design initially includes solutions that make the engine cheaper to operate. The use of carbon fiber parts and new heat-resistant structural steels reduces the weight of the power plant, increases fuel efficiency, and extends the service life of the main components.
A reduction in operating costs is also announced for the PD-14. According to previously published estimates, its operating costs will be 14–17% lower compared to existing analogues, and the life cycle cost will be 15–20% less than that of foreign engines in this class.
