Hidden version of Lada Niva Travel surfaced in production with a powerful engine

AvtoVAZ assembled an SUV with a 122-hp engine from Lada Vesta in a special batch "not for everyone"

At the AvtoVAZ plant, a small batch of Lada Niva Travel SUVs was assembled with a non-standard power unit – a 16-valve, 1.8-liter engine with about 122 hp from the Lada Vesta. The vehicles were made to a special order and did not receive any marks about changes in the registration documents. The project customer is not officially disclosed. This was reported by "Zhurnal Avito Auto".

Meanwhile, the base version of the Niva Travel is equipped with an 8-valve, 1.8-liter engine that develops about 90 hp. Thus, we are talking about a significant increase in power while maintaining the standard transmission, without switching to a new gearbox or changing the chassis.

In essence, engineers used a more powerful engine from the Vesta family without changing the architecture of the powertrain. This solution looks like a compromise between increasing dynamics and maintaining the already proven SUV design.

Such "hidden" modifications usually appear as part of limited batches or test projects, where it is more important to check the compatibility of units than to launch an update into mass production.

From a technical point of view, the combination of a more powerful 16-valve engine and a standard transmission can provide an increase in acceleration dynamics, but at the same time increases the load on components originally designed for a less powerful engine.

It is worth noting separately that the absence of official marks about changes may indicate the experimental or service nature of the batch. In such cases, the manufacturer often tests real operating scenarios without fully launching the updated version on the market.
