Old Lada Niva Travel is a thing of the past: AvtoVAZ discontinued the 1.7-liter engine version

The 83-hp version has been replaced by a 90-hp variant, along with over a hundred technical improvements

AvtoVAZ has ceased production of the Lada Niva Travel with the old 83-hp 1.7-liter engine. However, "old" cars can still be found at dealerships: SUVs produced earlier remain in stock. The discontinuation of the previous Lada Niva Travel versions was reported by "Avtopotok". This information, according to the publication, was confirmed by the concern's press service.

According to the source, the last Lada Niva Travel with the old 1.7-liter engine were produced last year. However, the 83-hp Niva Travel has not yet completely disappeared from the market.

Currently, the relevant versions of the SUV are equipped only with the new 90-hp 1.8-liter engine. The updated Lada Niva Travel went on sale at the end of last year. Externally, the restyled SUV is easiest to distinguish by its new radiator grille, front bumper, and LED headlights. The model is sold in six trim levels, including a special "KHL" version.

The main technical update of the Niva Travel is the new 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine with 90 hp. This is an 8-valve engine, which was made based on components from front-wheel drive Lada models. Structurally, it is related to the VAZ 1.8 family: its cylinder block is similar to the 122-hp 1.8 Evo engine, from which the crankshaft and piston casting were also taken. However, the cylinder head here is different - it is used on AvtoVAZ's 8-valve engines.

The update did not stop there. The SUV received brakes from Lada Vesta with ventilated discs of increased diameter, a revised front suspension, and other changes. In total, more than 100 technical improvements were made to the model.

In the market, the Niva Travel has various alternatives: from the simpler Lada Niva Legend and the larger UAZ Patriot to urban crossovers like "Moskvich 3", Haval Jolion, Belgee X50, and Geely Cityray. Some buyers look towards more modern crossovers, where there is more comfort, a quieter cabin, and richer equipment. Others choose larger SUVs if they need space and power reserve.
