The new Russian supersonic aircraft will be built without a windshield, so pilots will have to get information from monitors and sensors, and only then make flight decisions. This was stated by Andrey Popov, a representative of the State Research Institute of Aviation Systems (GosNIIAS).
According to him, engineers are working on the so-called "technical vision" technology in a closed cockpit on a test bench.
You must see the picture outside through monitors and sensors to further process this information. And the pilot inside the cockpit without a windshield must make decisions based only on this information.
Earlier, Popov reported that the appearance of the new supersonic passenger airliner has been finally formed. It will have a straight sharp nose, but no windshield.
Aviation expert Andrey Velichko explained that traditional glazing was abandoned due to aerodynamic requirements at such high speeds. Nevertheless, side windows for taxiing on the runway will remain.
