The United Shipbuilding Corporation (OSK) has launched the production of azimuth thrusters at the Krasnoye Sormovo plant. The new facility is designed to produce equipment with a capacity of up to 1200 kW.
The first thruster has already been tested on a stand and presented to the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. OSK clarified that the enterprise will be able to produce up to 50 azimuth thrusters per year for river-sea class vessels.
The equipment is planned to be used, among other things, on Project RSD59 vessels and on the basis of a unified platform developed by the corporation in 2025.
After the cessation of supplies of European azimuth thrusters, the development of domestic production became a priority for the industry. The new workshop with a test stand will allow for the gradual formation of a line of domestic solutions.
The OSK press service reported to "Pervy Tekhnichesky" that by 2036, Russia will build more than 1.6 thousand units of civilian vessels and marine equipment of various types.
The corporation is also carrying out a large-scale modernization of "Severnaya Verf" in St. Petersburg, where Project 22350 frigates are produced.
