179 meters of cooling: installation of the key cooling tower structure has begun at Leningrad NPP-2

Construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2027

At the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2, installation has begun on the inclined colonnade of the natural-draft evaporative cooling tower — the structural base that will support the 179-meter facility of Power Unit No. 3 with a VVER-1200 reactor.

The work is being carried out in stages. First, specialists install 100 reinforced concrete columns weighing about 20 tons each. They are then assembled into blocks and mounted at an incline. The final stage is the concreting of the column bases, which secures the entire structure.

The cooling tower plays a key role in the plant's operation: it removes heat from the turbine and directly affects the stability and safety of the power unit. That is why its construction is subject to enhanced requirements.

Construction of the cooling tower is planned to be completed by the end of 2027. The project's general contractor is the TITAN-2 holding company.
