Weighing 170 tonnes: the second tier of the inner containment shell of Unit 3 has been installed at LNPP-2

Specialists have begun the final stage of welding work before the installation of a key safety element of the VVER-1200 reactor

At the LNPP-2 construction site, specialists have begun installing the second tier of the inner containment shell (ICS) of the reactor building for Power Unit 3. The structure plays a key role in the safety system, ensuring the leak-tightness of the reactor circuit.

According to reports from the work site, the total mass of the assembled metal structures amounted to nearly 170 tonnes. The height of the finished element reaches 12.8 metres. At present, engineers are completing the welding of the final marking point and carrying out quality control of the welds.

After the welding operations are completed, the installation crew will begin moving the structure into its design position. The installation of the second tier of the ICS will make it possible to proceed to the formation of the next levels of the containment shell. All equipment used for lifting heavy loads has undergone the required inspection.

Let us recall that in early December 2025, specialists installed a bracket truss at the under-construction third power unit of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2.
