The technologies of the newest S-500 "Prometheus" anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) are 10 years ahead of the development level of NATO's means of destruction. This was stated by the head of the Yaroslavl Higher Military School of Air Defense, Valery Zosiev.
He called "Prometheus" a unique complex that can destroy any existing ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
Even a reserve has been made for speeds that will only appear in NATO countries in about ten years. Field tests have proven that we can already destroy them.
The first regiment with the S-500 "Prometheus" SAM system took up combat duty in Russia in December 2025. The head of the Ministry of Defense, Andrei Belousov, clarified that the complex is capable of hitting targets in near space.
Military expert Alexei Zakharov noted that the computing facilities of "Prometheus" allow for the competent distribution of targets between specific SAM systems that are part of the unified air defense system. This approach significantly enhances the effectiveness of air defense.
