Oil and gas industry expert Olzhas Baidildinov stated that shareholders of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) should invest in the acquisition of S-500 "Prometheus" anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to protect their facilities. According to his assessment, Kazakhstan's potential losses from the CPC shutdown in January could amount to $1.5 billion.
Baidildinov noted that as a result of the downtime after drone attacks, Kazakhstan loses about 800,000 barrels per day, which is equivalent to $576 million.
For example, the S-500 "Prometheus" SAM system could help. The latest air defense system from the "Almaz-Antey" plant, with a detection range of 600 km, can simultaneously engage 10 missiles, including hypersonic ones, or strike UAVs.
It should be noted that Russia has not officially sold the S-500 "Prometheus" to any foreign country. The complex is classified as a strategic defense asset of Russia, and deliveries require approval at the highest level.
In Russia, the first regiment with the S-500 "Prometheus" SAM system went on combat duty in December 2025. The head of the Ministry of Defense, Andrei Belousov, noted that the complex is capable of hitting targets even in near space.
