Cosmic radiation can cause radiation sickness in the crew during a Martian expedition, so a manned mission to the Red Planet is postponed until reliable protection systems are created. This was stated by the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov.
There is already infrastructure on Mars — rovers and scientific missions have been sent there. But in order for a person to get to Mars, you must first catch the appropriate astronomical window, when the planets line up in a certain row so that you can fly. And according to the estimates of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a flight to Mars and back, taking into account cosmic radiation, heavily charged particles, can lead to radiation sickness in humans. Therefore, there are these risks here, and until we can parry this technologically, we will not risk people's lives.
The head of Roscosmos said that it is planned to deploy infrastructure on the Moon to develop new technologies outside the Earth and near-Earth space.
The day before, the head of the Y. A. Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Oleg Kononenko, expressed his thoughts on the future of Russian cosmonautics. He believes that if the current pace of technological progress and infrastructure development is maintained, Russian specialists will be able to organize a manned mission to Mars within the next 50 years.
