Russia will have its first container ship with a record capacity of 4,800 TEU for operation in Arctic latitudes. This was reported by the press service of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
USC designers have completed the development of the preliminary design of the vessel (a preliminary stage including a feasibility study for the creation of the vessel) commissioned by Rosatom Arctic JSC. It will be used on the Northern Sea Route (NSR) routes.
Of the 6 alternative architectural and structural solutions, differing in layout, propulsion system and type of fuel consumed, [...] we chose the optimal one from the point of view of container capacity, operational performance and economic efficiency.
Experts have also prepared a digital database for the introduction of information modeling technology. It will be used in the subsequent stages of the vessel's development.
The new container ship will pass through ice up to 1.7 m thick (ice class Arc7). It will accommodate over 4,800 containers on board.
Russia uses 2 types of containers that meet international standards: 20-foot (almost 6.06 m long) and 40-foot (about 12.2 m long). They are suitable for the transport of dry cargo. Tank containers are used for liquid cargo.
