The dispute was triggered by an accident at the Moskovo gas compressor station in Bashkiria, owned by Gazprom transgaz Ufa. The incident occurred in August 2021, when the engine of a gas pumping unit was destroyed at the facility.

The AL-31ST power unit was created on the basis of the AL-31F aircraft engine, which was used on Su-27 fighter jets. The equipment was insured by SOGAZ, and after the accident the company paid Gazprom compensation in the amount of 27.3 million rubles.

After that, the insurer tried to recover this amount from the engine manufacturer, claiming that the destruction of the unit occurred due to a factory defect.

However, courts of two instances concluded that no evidence of a manufacturing defect had been presented. The expert examination pointed to possible metal fatigue and the operating conditions of the equipment.

As a result, the appellate court upheld the decision of the court of first instance and denied the insurer recovery of funds from the manufacturer.

Earlier it became known that by the end of 2025, net losses of PAO ODK-UMPO reached 14.3 billion rubles. For comparison, in 2024 the Ufa plant posted a net profit of 8.3 billion rubles. The enterprise produces fighter jet engines, including those for the Su-57 and Su-35S.
