The insurance company SOGAZ failed to recover 27.3 million rubles from the aircraft engine building enterprise UEC-UMPO. The Arbitration Court of Bashkiria completely rejected the claim.
SOGAZ demanded to recover money from UEC-UMPO for the destroyed engine of a gas pumping unit, the funds for which the insurers transferred to Gazprom. Accordingly, the insurer wanted the manufacturer to reimburse him for a similar amount.
The accident occurred in August 2021 at the Moskovo gas compressor station in Bashkiria. The AL-31ST engine (a modification of the AL-31F aircraft engine, which was installed on Su-27 fighters) failed, its blades were destroyed.
The gas pumping unit was insured with SOGAZ. Gazprom gave the engine for repair to UEC-UMPO, paying 27.3 million rubles for it. Then the gas company recovered this amount from the insurance company.
SOGAZ argued in court that the engine blades were destroyed due to a manufacturing defect or improper repair. UEC specialists came to the conclusion that the accident occurred due to metal fatigue and improper operating conditions. The forensic examination confirmed the conclusion of the manufacturer.
As a reminder, the main products of UEC-UMPO (part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec) are engines for aircraft of the Su-27 family (AL-31F engine), Su-30 (AL-31F and AL-31FP engines), Su-25 (R-95Sh and R-195), Su-35S (AL-41F-1S) and Su-57 (AL-41F-1).
