The Committee for State Control, Use and Protection of Historical and Cultural Landmarks (KGIOP) has issued a positive conclusion on the construction of high-speed railway (HSR) tracks in the historical center of St. Petersburg. This was reported by the press service of the department.

The project includes the installation of platform (running along the platform) and main tracks, installation of contact network supports, power supply and water supply networks. In addition, the construction of two electrical interlocking posts (EC, with its help remote control of turnouts and traffic lights is carried out) is planned.

The document also states that for the implementation of the project it is necessary to dismantle a number of buildings, including historical objects at the address: Ligovsky pr., 50, lit. V, Transportny per., 12, lit. A.

In January 2026, active construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg HSR began. Works were launched on the Kryukovo-Tver section. This year, the construction of the terminal will start in the Northern capital. The first HSR in Russia will start operating in 2028. It will connect Moscow and St. Petersburg, the journey time will be 2 hours 15 minutes.
