The new domestically produced regional aircraft LMS-901 "Baikal" will help develop small aviation in remote areas of the country. The aircraft functions perfectly even in conditions of poorly developed infrastructure, said Dmitry Baranov, a leading expert at Finam Management UK.
He emphasized that the aircraft will also make a certain contribution to the development of tourism and logistics.
"Baikal" will strengthen small aviation in remote areas of Russia, providing affordable transportation over short distances from unpaved airfields. It will also improve the connectivity of territories in the North and Far East, and improve their transport accessibility.
According to the plan, the LMS-901 project will replace the outdated An-2. Designer Alexander Silin noted that "Baikal" is superior to Soviet machines in terms of speed and fuel efficiency.
A few days ago, the fifth prototype of the "Baikal" successfully completed its first test flight at an airfield in the Sverdlovsk region.
Engineers at the Ural Civil Aviation Plant changed the angle of attack on this model to eliminate premature lift-off from the runway during takeoff in gusty winds.
