The modernization of the runway at the VASO aircraft plant (a branch of PJSC "Il") in Voronezh is part of a large investment program specifically related to the production of Il-96 and participation in other aviation projects, the company's press service confirmed to Abireg.
The plant is currently considering various options for improving the aerodrome's operation, but there is no final decision on the format and parameters of the modernization yet. It was promised to be adopted taking into account the production tasks and interests of the Voronezh region.
The United Aircraft Corporation added that some of the decisions regarding the expansion of the runway (RWY) do not only depend on the plant.
This is a matter of developing a common solution with the city, for which, as we understand it, public hearings have been launched.
More land needed
A few days ago, VASO appealed to the Voronezh administration with a request to transfer the territory on Tsiolkovsky Street, 27, to its ownership. The company plans to use the land to extend its runway.
As a reminder, VASO produces long-range airliners of the Il-96 line — Il-96-300 and Il-96-400M. The latter has not even conducted test flights for almost six months, and only a few first ones have been released.
