The domestic Il-114-300 turboprop aircraft is planned to be tested at temperatures down to -50°C. This was reported by Daniil Brenerman, Managing Director of the company "Il" (part of the United Aircraft Corporation).
The Il-114-300 aircraft is undergoing tests in Yakutia, where the temperature varies around -43 to -45°C. In such harsh conditions, the reliability of the powerplant and aircraft systems at ultra-low temperatures is being checked, as well as resistance to difficult weather conditions and the aircraft's behavior on unpaved surfaces.
We plan to reach -50°C, so at the end of this year or at the very beginning of the next — during the season of another period of the most extreme frosts — I think we will fly here again.
The Il-114-300 is a modernized version of the baseline Il-114 that will replace the An-24. The aircraft is equipped with new TV7-117ST-01 engines with increased power and efficiency. The aircraft is designed to carry up to 68 passengers and is capable of operating in the conditions of the Far North.
Earlier, www1.ru reported why the regions need the specific Il-114-300.
