Geomagnetic storm continues: magnetic storm reached level G3

Experts predict the possibility of X-class flares on January 21 and 22

The power of the magnetic storm on Earth has again reached level G3. This was reported by the press service of the E. K. Fedorov Institute of Applied Geophysics (FSBI "IPG").

At level G3, disruptions in power systems may be observed, including the possibility of false alarms of protective automation and overheating of oil transformers. There are also occasional interruptions in satellite and low-frequency radio navigation, and failures in high-frequency radio communications.

Experts assessed the flare activity from moderate to high. Solar flares of class X may occur on January 21 and 22.

The current magnetic storm began on the evening of January 19 and reached level G4 during the night. The cause of the geomagnetic storm was the impact of a cloud of solar plasma, ejected during the first highest class flare this year.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the most powerful radiation storm of level S4 in the last 22 years was observed near Earth.
